Andy Halliday will leave Rangers on a free transfer in the summer, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claims that although the 25-year-old still has three years left on his contract at Ibrox, he will be axed by Pedro Caixinha in the summer as the Gers boss looks to sell a host of Mark Warburton’s failed signings.

However it is understood that right-back James Tavernier will not be sold by the Light Blues in the summer, despite reports suggesting he would, as his performances have seen him become an exception to Caixinha, who replaced Warburton at the Ibrox helm in March and has since been disappointed with many players at his disposal.

The Daily Record reported on Wednesday morning that Tavernier had been placed on Rangers’ transfer list at a price worth £1.25million.

Halliday signed fresh terms with Rangers in January 2016 that would have seen him stay at the club until 2020.

He was at the centre of a training ground bust-up with Joey Barton which saw the controversial ex-Manchester City man released by the Scottish giants.

The former Middlesbrough and Bradford midfielder has made 90 appearances for Rangers across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and supplying eight assists and also helped his side win the Scottish Championship last year.

Halliday seemingly fell out of favour of Caixinha the minute he replaced caretaker boss Graeme Murty in the Rangers hot seat and started just two matches since.
