Aston Villa are keeping a close eye on Wolfsburg winger Anton Donkor, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The report claims that Villa were also interested in signing the 19-year-old German in the January transfer window but he decided to move to Premier League side Everton on loan for the second half of the campaign.

The Birmingham Mail reports that the Merseyside club are unsure whether to sign the German on a permanent deal and Villa believe that there might a be chance to bring him to the club next season.

The Midlands club will wait on Everton’s decision to trigger a £1.5million pre-agreed price before pressing ahead with a concerted swoop.

Donkor’s move to Goodison Park at the start of the new year turned sour for the youngster because he suffered a serious ankle injury.

The German only managed to start two games during his spell with Everton’s youth team before returning to his native Germany to receive treatment on the injury.

Donkor would be a much-needed addition to Villa because he’s a very quick player who is very comfortable playing on either flank.

Steve Bruce’s side seriously lacked creativity last season in the Championship as they only managed to score 47 goals in the entire campaign – the fourth worst offensive record in the whole league.

The German winger could potentially be a player who brings back some excitement to the Villa Park faithful with his direct style of play and he would be able to create more chances for the Villa strikers next season.
