Anderlecht are planning a move to sign Newcastle’s Matz Sels on loan, according to Nieuwsblad.

The Belgian news outlet claims that three other clubs have made contact with enquiries over the availability of the goalkeeper, who has spent the season at the fringe of the Magpies squad.

The 25-year-old signed from Gent last summer but has only made 14 first-team appearances and has fell well down in the pecking order behind Karl Darlow and Rob Elliot.

Tim Krul is also expected to return to St. James’ Park after a loan spell at AZ Alkmaar.

It is understood that European giants Anderlecht, who are one of the biggest teams in the ever-improving Belgian Jupiler League, are looking to Sels as a replacement for Frack Boeckx, who has undergone a hernia operation and will miss over three months of action.

Nieuwablad claims that the shot-stopper is looking to move away from St. James’ Park in order to give himself a chance of taking part in the 2018 World Cup in Russia next summer.

It is said that a team tried to bring him back to Belgium in January but he wished to stay with the Magpies and fight for a place in Rafa Benitez’s first-team plans.

Sels is contracted at Newcastle until 2021 and because of his £5.6million transfer fee last summer, it is thought a loan move will be more likely.
