Portuguese centre-back Bruno Alves has verbally agreed terms with Scottish giants Rangers, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper details that the 35-year-old centre-back was manager Pedro Caixinha’s “priority target” as he plans an overhaul of his squad this summer.

It is stated that Alves stepped on a flight to Scotland on Monday afternoon and is now set to put pen to paper on Wednesday in a £500,000 transfer from Serie A side Cagliari.

Meanwhile, moves for Carlos Pena, Ryan Jack and Graham Dorrans are also stated to be “close to completion” with the Mexico international set to travel to Scotland for a medical after Rangers reached an agreement with Chivas.

Caixinha will be looking to build-up his squad in his first transfer window at the club as he looks to improve on a third placed finish while also competing in the Europa League.

He will be especially delighted if he does seal the signing of his top target in Alves, who boasts a fine career having played in the defence for such clubs as Porto, Zenit St. Petersburg and Fenerbache.

The experienced defender has also been capped 89 times by national side Portugal and just last summer he was lifting the Euro 2016 trophy with his country.
