Why Rangers must sign McManaman

Pedro Caixinha needs to make drastic improvements to his Rangers attack in the summer as he bids to close up the gap to Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Scott Sinclair moved to Parkhead last summer following a miserable few years in England with Manchester City, West Brom and Aston Villa – and this should be something that Caixinha must be willing to replicate.

The Portuguese manager needs to swallow his pride and try to copy the Bhoys by rescuing the frustrated Callum McManaman from the Hawthorns, where he has fell afoul of Tony Pulis.

The Birmingham Mail suggests that the 26-year-old is likely to quit Premier League mid-table side West Brom in the summer after failing to play a single league game for them this season and a loan spell to Sheffield Wednesday also proved unsuccessful.

McManaman was a very higly-rated youngster in his days at Wigan but a move to Albion saw his development halted – similar to how Sinclair’s move to Man City panned out.

The two wingers aren’t all too dissimilar as they’re both good on the ball, can take on their man and they can also chip in with the goals and assists.

Caixinha must take a serious look at McManaman, who might also be within the Gers’ budget as it is understood from the Birmingham Mail that Pulis could be looking to cut his losses on the £4.75million flop.

A loan move for the former England Under-20 winger could also be an option for Rangers, who need an overhaul of almost their entire squad in the transfer window.

McManaman isn’t going to be the most dazzling proposition to the Ibrox faithful, but there’s no denying that he is a player that could definitely step up to the mark in the Scottish Premiership.
