Mark Warburton has revealed that he is “delighted” that David Vaughan has agreed to a new contract at Nottingham Forest.

The experienced midfielder penned a new one-year extension of his deal at the City Ground on Monday and the former Rangers boss is now excited to see his contribution over the course of next season.

Vaughan proved to be a key part in Warburton’s side after he took the reins form interim boss Gary Brazil in March.

The former Blackpool man supplied two assists in the final game of the season which saw the Reds ensure themselves of Championship survival by goal difference with a 3-0 win over Ipswich.

Waburton, 54, is over the moon that an agreement has been reached and took to his personal Twitter account on Monday to give his verdict on the news.

“Delighted to have David Vaughan commit to the club for next season. A fully deserved contract extension and I look forward to welcoming him back,” he said.

Vaughan has been at the City Ground since 2013/14 after a short loan spell from Sunderland.

He then made his move permanent and has in total made 95 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, scoring two goals.

Forest’s last-day survival was certainly a wake-up call for the club who are now looking to the future following the change of ownership to Greek businessman Evangelos Marinakis.

Warburton is expected to make big changes to his side and is looking to thin the herd to free up funds to strengthen certain areas.
