Aston Villa defender Micah Richards believes Tottenham’s Kyle Walker is the best right-back in England.

Richards, who can operate at either right-back or as a centre-back, singled out the Tottenham 26-year-old when asked to name the best player in his position in world football.

He said, in a video shared on the club’s official Twitter account on Tuesday: “I’d say at right-back, Kyle Walker. He’s got to be up there, he seems to be doing alright.

“I don’t know about world football. I’d definitely say he’s the best in English football. World football, I don’t know. Daniel Alves is still up there, for me. At centre-half, I’ve always liked Thiago Silva.”

Walker has been ever-present for Tottenham in all competitions this season, earning 39 appearances and supplying six assists.

He remained the almost entirely undisputed first-choice right-back under Mauricio Pochettino this term, only to lose his place in the starting eleven during the final few weeks.

His positional rival, Kieran Trippier, who had impressed when handed a rare opportunity by Pochettino, became the permanent fixture for four of Tottenham’s last five Premier League games.

However, Walker very much remains one of the hottest properties in English football at this current moment in time, with his performances over the last two seasons reportedly attracting interest from Tottenham’s rivals.

The Sun reported on Tuesday morning that European heavyweights Chelsea and Bayern Munich had both joined the race for the England international, who is also on the radar of Manchester City.

It is also detailed that Walker is willing to listen to offers this summer, and is rated by Tottenham at £40million.
