Steven Thompson has slammed Rangers’ second-half performance from their 2-1 victory over Hearts on Saturday.

The Gers picked up another three points with a home win, but were made to sweat by 10-man Hearts.

Pedro Caixinha’s side took the lead via Joe Garner’s header in just the 6th minute and Pricne Buaben was then shown a straight red card for the visitors in the 26th minute.

A spirited Hearts managed to score an equalising goal through Esmael Goncalves early in the second period and Barrie Mckay’s automatic response earned the hosts a second consecutive win.

Rangers guaranteed third spot in the league and are back in European football next season, but have stumbled over the line in recent weeks and are expected to have a busy summer transfer window ahead of them.

BBC pundit Thompson has delivered a scathing assessment of the Ibrox outfit for their second-half display and feels they should have done better against Hearts.

“Considering Hearts have been down to 10 men, this has been a poor second-half performance from Rangers,” said Thompson to BBC Radio Scotland, as quoted by the BBC live match blog. ”It is more in keeping with what they have been like in recent weeks.”

Rangers have managed to bounce back from two consecutive defeats against Celtic, including a 5-1 hammering at Ibrox.

They are 36 points adrift of their Old Firm rivals in the table toppers and Caixinha is set to be busy in the summer market.
