Santo in the running for Wolves job

Former Porto and Valencia manager Nuno Espirito Santo is in the running to become the next Wolves manager, according to reliable journalist Goncalo Lopes.

The Portuguese sports journalist reported on his personal Twitter account that the 43-year-old boss “is a possibility to coach Wolves next year.”

Express and Star reporter Tim Spiers has previously claimed that Paul Lambert is expected to leave Molineux in the not too distant future due to a dispute with the stranglehold that super-agent Jorge Mendes has on the Black Country outfit’s transfer dealings.

It is understood that Wolves’ owners Fosun have a strong relationship with Mendes, who has seen a number of players arrive at the club from Portuguese teams since their takeover last year.

Former senior Sky Sports reporter Graeme Bailey has reported that Aitor Karanka, 43, is desperate to replace Lambert at the Molineux helm following his dismissal from Middlesbrough.

Santos has a vast amount of experience with some of Europe’s biggest clubs under his belt having taken charge at Rio Ave, Valencia and Porto is what has been a relatively short management career.

He began at Portuguese outfit Rio Ave in 2012 and took them to the Europa League for the first time in their history.

The former Portugal Under-21 international goalkeeper then had year-long stays at both European giants Valencia and Porto, with whom he left on Monday after just 49 games in charge.

Reliable journalist Lopes has had his work published by the London Evening Standard and also links one of Portugal’s biggest news outlets Diario de Noticias on his Twitter account.
