Trevor Sinclair has praised West Ham on Twitter for their “great signing” of Pablo Zabaleta.

The Hammers official website confirmed on Friday afternoon that 32-year-old right-back Zabaleta had put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the east London outfit, after being told his Manchester City deal would not be renewed.

Posting on his personal Twitter account in reaction to the Hammers’ first signing of the summer, former West Ham and Man City winger Sinclair described Zabaleta as a fine acquisition.

The 58-time Argentina international joins on a free transfer as his current deal at the Etihad Stadium was set to expire in less than five weeks’ time on June 30.

The former Espanyol defender brings with him a wealth of experience that has seen him make 230 appearances in the top flight of English football and even boast two Premier League winners’ medals.

Right-back has been a problem area for Bilic this season, with Sam Byram and Alvaro Arbeloa both suffering with long-term injuries that has forced the Croat boss to call on the versatility of his squad.

Cheikhou Kouyate, Havard Nordtveit and Michail Antonio have all been used on the right side of defence this season, but bringing in Zabaleta finally puts and end to Bilic’s woes.

Bilic is likely to be active in the summer window after a disappointing season that saw the Hammers fail to replicate the successes of their 2015-16 campaign, finishing in a lowly 11th with 17 league losses in 38 games.
