West Ham midfielder Sofiane Feghouli has admitted he was not as his best during his debut season at the club.

The 27-year-old joined the Hammers from Valencia on a free transfer last summer and was expected to make a big impact.

But the Algerian midfielder, like many of his fellow summer 2016 signings at the London outfit, proved to be a big let-down in what was an injury-ravaged campaign in which he featured only 21 times in the Premier League, scoring three goals and supplying three assists.

However he did score on the final day of the season as his side earned a hard-fought three points by beating Burnley 2-1.

Speaking to West Ham’s official website, he said of his first season in England: “First of all, the Premier League is a very different style of football to what I have experienced in La Liga, the Champions League and World Cups.

“Unfortunately, I was affected by some physical problems earlier in the season but that’s football and I’ll take what I’ve learned this year to improve for next season.”

Feghouli was not the only player to disappoint for the Hammers this season, as they eventually finished 11th in the Premier League.

Prior to signing for West Ham the Algerian had plied his trade at Valencia for six seasons and he made more than 150 appearances for the club in La Liga.

He also made 22 appearances for the club in the Champions League, scoring six goals.

Feghouli is experienced on the international stage too and has earned 42 caps for Algeria, scoring 11 goals.
