Tottenham striker Vincent Janssen admits that he expected to be involved more this campaign but he is confident that he can play a key role for the club next season.

The 22-year-old is currently involved with the Dutch national team who face friendly matches against Morocco and the Ivory Coast before taking on Luxembourg in an important World Cup qualifier on Friday 9 June.

Speaking with Dutch outlet NOS, as quoted in the Evening Standard, Janssen reveals that he is ready to step up to the plate for Spurs next season having learnt a lot in his first season in the Premier League.

“It is clear that this was not my best season. But I still learned a lot,” he said.

“We finished second in the Premier League, so I think we can be satisfied. I did not have much of a role in Spurs’ successful season. I expected to play more. But this is the way it is.

“But I did develop. That is the way football is sometimes. Of course, it was a disappointing season. This is not what I hoped for.

“I am not afraid next season at Spurs will be like this again. I am very confident.”

The Dutch striker joined Tottenham in the 2016 summer transfer window off the back of a sensational season with Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar where he finished as league’s top goalscorer with 27 goals to his name.

With Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min in sensational form throughout the season, Janssen spent most of the season watching on from the sidelines, only making a total of seven Premier League starts.

Janssen failed to make the desired impact when given the chances on the pitch as he only managed to score six goals in all competitions for Spurs.

The Dutch international scored more goals in the domestic cup competitions than he managed in the Premier League – scoring twice in the home league matches against Leicester City and Bournemouth.
