Tottenham have tabled a bid for Espanyol goalkeeper Paul Lopez, according to a report in Spanish newspaper Sport.

The Spanish publication claim Spurs have made an offer this week for the 22-year-old, who has spent the season on loan at White Hart Lane.

Sport report that the Premier League big hitters have lodged a bid worth £1.75million plus a percentage to be paid to the La Liga club of any future sale.

It is said that Espanyol are holding out for between £3.5million and £4.4million for their academy product, who was the first choice between the sticks before his exit last summer.

The Spanish club are not willing to sell Lopez for a cut-price fee even though he was third-choice goalkeeper at Spurs during the recently-completed season and did not play a single minute for the club.

Sport claim Espanyol are ready to extend the contract of the 22-year-old if they cannot strike an agreement with the Premier League club.

Lopez’s current deal with the top-flight outfit, who were once managed by Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, runs until the summer of 2018.

The keeper is said to be highly regarded by Pochettino and his staff, who believe he can be promoted to the number two to skipper Hugo Lloris next season.
