Tottenham full-back Kieran Trippier has been called up to the England senior squad for their upcoming internationals – and fans on Twitter are delighted.

The 26-year-old was named in Gareth Southgate’s 25-man England squad to face Scotland and France next month, and has an opportunity to earn his first senior cap.

England announced their confirmed squad on their official Twitter account on Thursday afternoon.

Trippier has previously featured at youth level for England, but has not yet made the step up to the senior side since making his last appearance in 2011 for the Under 21’s.

But after an impressive season for Tottenham where he looks to have replaced the out-of-sorts Kyle Walker in the starting eleven, the former Burnley man has been rewarded for his patience.

He had featured only intermittently during the first-half of the 2016-17 campaign, but earned a more regular role over the final few months, contributing seven assists from 22 appearances in all competitions.

His fine form drew widespread praise from Tottenham fans, but his international call-up has drawn even more plaudits as fans took to Twitter to deliver their verdicts.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Walker, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Harry Kane are the four other Tottenham players that have also been included in the England squad.

Having replaced Walker in the first-team at domestic level, Trippier is now also set to rival his team-mate for the right-back spot on the international stage.

England are first in action against Scotland in a World Cup qualifier on June 10, before a trip to Euro 2016 finalists France for a friendly on June 13.
