Tottenham and Everton are keen on signing Hull City defender Harry Maguire, according to a report in the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the Premier League duo are locked in £22million tug-of-war for the centre-back, who is rated highly by Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman.

It is said that both managers want to sign the 24-year-old as soon as the summer transfer window opens on July 1.

Despite Hull suffering relegation from the Premier League this season, Maguire caught the eye with his individual performances from the back.

The report details that Maguire has decided that he wants to continue playing in the top-flight because of his team’s relegation and manager Marco Silva’s decision to quit the club.

Sheffield-born Maguire has one-year left on his current deal at the KCOM Stadium and played 29 league matches throughout the campaign.

It is also said that Spurs scouts have been keeping close tabs on Maguire this term and they have recommended to Pochettino and chairman Daniel Levy to pursue a deal for the defender because of growing doubts over Kevin Wimmer’s progress.

The Austria international has not featured for his side since February and is a backup option to the senior pairing of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

The report states that Maguire is attracted by Champions League football with Tottenham but he knows that he would get more regular game time at Everton because of Vertonghen’s and Alderweireld’s established partnership.

Spurs finished off their Premier League campaign as runners-up, with the Toffees securing seventh spot which now gives them a chance to enter next season’s Europa League.
