Tottenham left-back Danny Rose has called for the club to sign the next Dele Alli this summer as they look to challenge on all fronts next season.

Spurs finished second in the Premier League this term, seven points behind champions Chelsea, and the 26-year-old believes that in order to take the next step his club need a big summer signing.

The North Londoners’ chance at FA Cup glory was also ended by Antonio Conte’s side, as they knocked them out of the competition in the semi-finals.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live’s The Friday Football Social (Friday, 7.15pm), as quoted by the channel’s official Twitter account, Rose was keen to emphasise the need for a marquee signing as well as pluck another unpolished gem in the same manner as when they signed playmaker Alli from MK Dons for a bargain £5million.

He said: “I think we have to try and make one marquee signing this season who can hopefully help push us forward.

“It will be difficult for us as a club to compete with City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. I think the aim for the club should be, we have to sign the next Dele.

“I know it’s easier said than done. Try and get somebody from the lower leagues and make them a star. I think the next season coming we have to try and do a lot better in the Champions League.”

Speaking on the same broadcast, Rose also called for Mauricio Pochettino to strengthen his squad’s depth this summer.

Prior to picking up a season-ending knee injury in January, the left-back had been a mainstay in Spurs’ back line, making 21 league and cup appearances.

The 26-year-old joined the White Hart Lane club from Leeds United in the summer of 2007, and he has gone onto cement his position in the first team, and has amassed more than 140 appearances in all competitions.

He has also been capped by England 12 times, although he has not featured since the 2-2 friendly draw with Spain in 2016.
