Tottenham youngster Josh Onomah has sent out a message to manager Mauricio Pochettino that he wants more chances playing for the first-team next season.

The 20-year-old is currently with the England Under-20 national team competing in the 2017 World Cup in South Korea.

Onomah has started three of the four matches in the tournament and he featured for over an hour on Wednesday morning as England progressed to the quarter-final stage after beating Costa Rica 2-1.

The midfielder has spent his entire career at the North London club but he has yet to start a single Premier League game.

Onomah made 11 appearances for Tottenham this season and he scored his first ever senior goal for the club in the 5-0 victory over League One side Gillingham in the EFL Cup at White Hart Lane.

The youngster also experienced Champions League football for the first time in his career as he featured in the group stage matches against Bayer Leverkusen and CSKA Moscow this season.

Speaking with The Sun, the teenager stated that he wants to make a huge impression on his manager and he hopes that his performances in the World Cup can convince Pochettino to give him more minutes with the first-team.

“Not everybody gets the chance to play at an Under-20s World Cup – but if I can show exactly what I am capable of doing it will obviously help me back at Spurs,” he said.

“I know my manager is watching, and to the fans and everyone who have not seen me yet, I want to show them what I can do.

“Football is all about setting new goals and overcoming challenges. And mine at the moment is to win the World Cup and then step-up at Tottenham and try to become a regular starter.”

Competition for places in Tottenham’s midfield is tough with players such as Christian Eriksen, Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele performing at such a high level this season.
