Newcastle United’s DeAndre Yedlin has returned to the United States to train with former side Seattle Sounders in order to remain fit during the summer break.

Yedlin, 23, is training with the MLS outfit ahead of the USA’s upcoming Gold Cup campaign, with Bruce Arena’s men set to begin their campaign on July 8 against Panama.

Seattle Sounders’ official website revealed that the former Sunderland and Tottenham defender would be training for seven days with his former club, in order to maintain his levels of fitness.

“It’s a great feeling, I know I always have a home here,” Yedlin said, as quoted by the Sounders’ website.

“It’s my first club and it’s my favourite club. It’s my hometown club. Seattle will always hold a special place in my heart, and I’m excited to be back.”

Yedlin was an integral part of Rafa Benitez’s squad that gained an instant return to the Premier League during the 2016-17 season, as they gained promotion as champions of England’s second tier.

Making 32 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies after confirming a £5million transfer from Premier League side Tottenham in August 2016, Yedlin laid on six assists from right-back.

The Toon’s number 22 even found the back of the net against Derby earlier in the season in a 2-0 win, using his attacking exploits as well as his defensive stability to boost the Toon.

Yedlin is expected to be Newcastle’s first-choice right-back in the Premier League next season with Vurnon Anita set to leave St. James’ Park, as the Holland international’s current deal expires on June 30.

However, the Evening Chronicle reported earlier in the year that Yedlin could miss the start of the season, as the Gold Cup finishes on July 26. Yedlin is likely to be given time to recover, instead of being rushed back.
