Newcastle are keeping a close eye on Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs’ contract situation, according to a Daily Mail report.

The newspaper claims the Magpies are “monitoring” the 27-year-old’s situation as his contract at the Emirates enters its final year this summer.

It is said Bournemouth, Stoke City and Brighton and Hove Albion are all also looking at the left-back as a potential signing as well.

Gibbs joined the North Londoners academy in 2004 from Wimbledon, but he made the jump into Gunners manager Arsene Wenger’s senior set-up in 2007.

He has since made more than 200 appearances in all competitions for the club, and has been part of three FA Cup winning teams.

However, this season the 27-year-old has been forced to play second fiddle to Nacho Monreal, and with Wenger opting to deploy a 3-4-3 at times – his opportunities have been even more limited.

He only started in the Premier League eight times this term, although he did make 22 league and cup appearances overall, providing five assists.

Gibbs has been capped by England on 10 occasions, but he has not featured since a 2-0 friendly win over France in 2015.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is looking to bolster his squad ahead of a return to the Premier League next term.

Paul Dummett was the Toon’s first choice left-back in the 2016/17 Championship winning campaign, making 45 league appearances, but his club could see Gibbs as an upgrade.
