Huddersfield manager David Wagner is set to make an enquiry about taking Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward on loan next season, according to a Daily Mail report.

The newspaper claims if the Terriers win promotion to the Premier League on Monday, Wagner will ask his “good friend” and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, if he can have the 23-year-old shot-stopper on loan for another campaign.

It is said that the Klopp is taking Ward on the Anfield club’s pre-season tour, alongside Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet, in order to assess which goalkeeper will be his first choice for the 2017/18 campaign.

Ward has spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Huddersfield, and he is set to feature between the sticks as they face Reading in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Monday.

The Welshman has been in fine form for the Yorkshire club this term, and has made 45 appearances in all competitions, keeping 11 clean sheets.

He was the Terriers’ hero in the play-off semi-final against Sheffield Wednesday as he saved two penalties in the shoot-out to clinch victory for his side.

The report claims Wagner was Klopp’s best man at his wedding and he will hope his close relationship will mean Ward is allowed to return to Huddersfield next term.

Should the Terriers win on Monday, they will return to the English top-flight for the first time in more than 40 years.
