Huddersfield boss David Wagner is set to hold talks with Jurgen Klopp over the future of Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward after he starred in the Championship play-offs.

The 23-year-old stopper has spent the entire season on loan with the Yorkshire outfit, who confirmed their place in the Premier League with a penalty shootout victory against Reading on Monday afternoon.

Speaking after the match, Wagner revealed he will speak with Reds boss Klopp on the phone over the permanent signing of the three-time Wales international.

“I think I have a lot of calls to do. This is maybe why I don’t want to get my head around it because I know how much work is ahead of me,” Wagner said, as quoted by Sky Sports Transfer Centre (Sunday, 8.16pm).

“There are a few phone calls and I will speak with Jurgen [Klopp] for sure, not only about Danny but about everything that happens. Let’s give me some time to get my head around it.”

Ward proved pivotal during the Championship play-offs, saving two penalties from Sam Hutchinson and Fernando Forestieri in the semi-final against Sheffield Wednesday before stopping Jordan Obita’s effort at Wembley.

The Liverpool star missed just three of the Terriers’ 46 Championship fixtures this season, keeping 11 clean sheets as Huddersfield gained an unlikely promotion.

Ward moved to Liverpool five years ago from minnows Wrexham for a nominal fee but has made just two senior appearances for the Merseyside giants and could now be set to leave.

Ward is unlikely to be able to shift Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, with Klopp potentially looking for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

The former Aberdeen and Morecambe loanee has a contract until the summer of 2021, but Wagner will be hoping to use his relationship with Klopp as his former Borussia Dortmund assistant in order to strike a deal.
