Crystal Palace are hoping to win the race to sign Hamilton youngster Ronan Hughes, according to a report.

The Scottish Sun claim that Tottenham are one of the teams that have tracked the 18-year-old midfielder, but Premier League rivals Palace “could try to steal a march” by making a move for him.

It is understood that Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester United, Everton and West Ham are five teams that have been eyeing the Scotsman.

However, the report details that Palace are hopeful of signing the Hamilton starlet ahead of their rivals.

Hughes is an upcoming talent in Scottish football and is the youngster ever Hamilton player to feature in the top flight.

The central midfielder made his debut last season at the age of 17 and has featured four times for the senior side this campaign.

He has featured regularly in the first team squad this year and is still waiting to make his full breakthrough.

Hamilton face a crucial two-legged play-off final against Dundee United to retain their position in the top flight and emerging youngster Hughes is unlikely to be involved.

Spurs are one of the teams mentioned as eyeing the Hamilton academy product, but are ye to make a move and are set to see Palace blink first.

Mauricio Pochettino has shown he is keen to promote youth during his time with the north London club and the signing of Dele Alli from MK Dons is a shining example of these types of deals working.

Spurs also have several rising stars in their academy with the likes of Marcus Edwards and Kazaiah Sterling coming through.
