Former Leeds player Harry Kewell has been announced as the new Crawley manager – and the club’s supporters were highly critical of the 38-year-old following his appointment on Twitter.

Crawley confirmed on their official Twitter account that Kewell is their new boss and that Warren Feeney will take charge as his assistant.

The former Australia international will take permanent charge of the League Two club and it will be his first senior role following on from working with Watford’s Under-23s side.

Kewell had an established career in English football during his playing years and has now turned his hand to management, something that many several players attempt.

The ex-winger played for the likes of Leeds, Liverpool, Galatasaray and Melbourne Victory during his career.

However, he is hugely disliked by the Whites despite graduating from their academy as a youngster and spending eight years with them.

The Yorkshire giants fanbase are still bitter about how he left Elland Road for Liverpool in 2003, while he also chose to play for the club’s rivals Galatasaray.

Leeds and the Turkish giants have a marred history due to the deaths of two English fans during a UEFA Cup game in 2000.

The Whites fans were quick to rip into Kewell on social media following his appointment at Crawley and will hope he fails in management.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Some Leeds fans have hoped the magic of the FA Cup can throw up a tie against Crawley next season as they would love to come up against Kewell’s side.
