Jordan: Monk a Leeds failure in comparison to Dowie

|

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has claimed Garry Monk was a failure at Leeds after being harassed over his Iain Dowie appointment.

Jordan has already labelled Monk as a “choker” and said that he wouldn’t want him anywhere near his old side as they look for a replacement for Sam Allardyce.

Monk, 38, resigned from his role at Elland Road earlier this week after missing out on securing a play-off spot.

And the ex-Palace chairman believes that specific failure is what sets him apart to Dowie, who had managed to see the Eagles promoted to the Premier League.

Jordan was replying to a message on a his personal Twitter account which hinted that his appointment of Dowie and Peter Taylor mean that he would have no clue about picking the right manager.

“In this context this might have escaped you but Dowie was the manager who got Crystal Palace promoted to Premier League, which Monk failed with Leeds,” said Jordan on Saturday.

Monk led his Leeds side just short of a play-off place as they finished in seventh, despite spending a lot of the season inside the top six.

However a drop in form at a crucial period saw Fulham overtake the Whites and end their hopes of a return to England’s top flight.

Huddersfield and Reading will contest in the play-off final on Monday to decide who will join Brighton and Newcastle in promotion.

Jordan, 49, was the chairman at Selhurst Park for ten years and had a reputation for chopping and changing his managers.
