Tottenham have been reportedly linked with moves for Everton’s Ross Barkley and Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez, but Jermaine Jenas believes that they should chase a deal for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.

Spurs are known to be long-term admirers of Barkley and the Times report that Everton want £50million for his signature.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph recently reported that Spurs and Arsenal are both interested in last season’s PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez.

However, BBC pundit and ex-Spurs midfielder Jenas claims that his former side would be better served looking at Monaco’s Lemar.

The 21-year-old European sensation has been in great form this season and played a major role in his club winning the French Ligue 1 title, plus reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.

“The likes of Everton’s Ross Barkley and Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez have been mentioned,” Jenas wrote for BBC Sport. “But I like Monaco’s Thomas Lemar who is a very good player and definitely fits the mould.

“Spurs need quality and quantity in those positions so they can rotate if they have to without it affecting the team because I don’t think Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou, who both arrived last summer, have been the answer at all.”

Monaco have emerged as one of the most exciting sides in Europe this year and dazzled in the Champions League, before eventually being eliminated by finalists Juventus.

They have several young talents in their squad and Jenas believes Lemar would be a good fit for Spurs.

The left winger is blessed with phenomenal pace and would give the north London club a different dimension.

The France interantional has made 54 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring 14 goals and supplying 16 assists in return.

Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to improve his squad and the addition of Lemar could potentially help Spurs improve on their second-placed league finish this season.
