Millwall manager Neil Harris has revealed his team have permission to speak to Wolves midfielder Jed Wallace but has insisted a deal is ‘not close’ to being agreed.

Wallace spent the second half of the 2016-17 campaign on loan at the League One outfit, where he contributed three goals and one assist from 21 appearances in all competitions.

The 23-year-old winger was a valuable player under Harris as Millwall secured promotion back to the Championship, and The Den chief admits he would like to see back at the club next season.

However, with the player facing an imminent return to Wolves upon the expiry of his loan spell, Harris did also admit that a deal to extend his stay at the club was far from being complete.

He told London News Online: “I feel Jed has really helped us find our form from January onwards – he is a player I’ve got a lot of belief in.

“He is a player I’d like to worth with at Championship level. But at the moment he is a Wolves player and they will have a huge say on what happens with him.

“There is part of an agreement in there that gives us an opportunity to speak to Wolves and the player but it is not close to being agreed.”

Wallace had also made 13 appearances for Wolves last term, but faces an uncertain future at the club when he returns to Molineux this summer.

Wolves manager Paul Lambert fronted the decision to allow Wallace to quit the club in January, and it remains to be seen if Lambert will leave the door open to him in the first-team squad ahead of next season.

The Scottish chief has already suggested there could be a mass squad overhaul in the coming months, with Wolves boasting one of the largest squads in the Championship.

However, as Millwall boss Harris suggests, there is still a long way to go in negotiations if Wallace is to trade Wolves for The Den once again next season.
