Tony Cascarino believes that Kieran Trippier’s emergence this season is a major reason behind why Kyle Walker may leave in the summer.

The Mirror have reported that Spurs have agreed to sell first teamer Walker in the summer if their £40million valuation is matched, with Manchester City and Chelsea interested.

The 26-year-old began the season at White Hart Lane as the first-choice right-back, but speculation surrounding his future has mounted in recent months and caused him to lose his spot.

Trippier, 26, has managed to seize the opportunity and been used from the start frequently by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Cascarino feels that the rise of Trippier this season has played a role in allowing Walker to leave.

“Kieran Trippier showed what an attacking threat he can provide for Tottenham in their 7-1 win away to Hull,” Cascarino wrote in the Times. ”If they want to play a style of flowing attacking football with a wide player then he is perfect for their system.

“Trippier wins hands down over Kyle Walker in that regard — he is a much better crosser of the ball and no full back or winger in the league can match the quality of his deliveries. His emergence this season is a big reason why Spurs seem prepared to consider bids for Walker.”

Walker’s omission from the line-up has stunned people recently, but Trippier’s starting berth has certainly been earned.

Walker has been regarded as the best right-back in the division recently and was included in the PFA team of the year this season.

The England international provides great athleticism up and down the right flank, something which is a big feature of Pochettino’s style.

Meanwhile, Trippier has impressed immensely when he has featured this year and has provided seven assists in 22 appearances across all competitions.

The former Burnley defender has shown his fantastic crossing ability and starred in the final day of the season 7-1 hammering away to Hull.
