Southampton are setting up an end of season bid for Pontus Jansson.

According to a report in The Sun the Leeds United defender is viewed as a ready made replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

Jansson has been one of the driving forces behind Leeds’ play-off push but has been involved in a complex transfer from Torino which should be made permanent at the end of the season for £3.5m.

Southampton are ready to offer Leeds £10m for the Swede confident that they can pick up £50m for selling van Dijk.

While they state in public that the former Celtic defender is not for sale any offer of £50m will be hard to resist with van Dijk’s current ankle injury highlighting how vulnerable players are.

Leeds are in a similar position with Jansson who they’d want to retain whether they go up or not but a £6.5m profit will be welcomed with the form of the Swede attracting lots of attention.
