Liverpool are set to fund their bid for Virgil van Dijk by selling Mamadou Sakho for £30m.

According to a report in Metro the sale of the of favour defender could raise more than half of the money needed to join the £50m race for the Southampton defender.

Sakho has been in outstanding form since going on loan to Crystal Palace who have expressed and interest in signing the defender as well as West Brom.

Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that there will be no way back for Sakho with the move for van Dijk confirming that Liverpool are looking forward.

Chelsea and Manchester City have been strongly linked with the Dutchman but if Liverpool can secure Champions League football for next season.

Southampton are preparing to lose van Dijk but expect to rake in a world record transfer fee for a defender with some of the biggest spenders in the business looking to sign up the former Celtic defender.
