Chelsea are weighing up a bid for Ryan Bertrand.

According to a report in The Evening Standard Antonio Conte is looking to bring the Southampton defender back to Stamford Bridge.

After five years at Chelsea which included seven loan deals Bertrand was sold to Southampton in 2015 for £15m.

Conte’s system is highly dependent on the use of wing-backs with Bertrand offering high quality cover for next season which will see Chelsea back in the Champions League.

Ironically the highlight of the the 27-year-old’s career was playing for Chelsea in the Champions League Final win over Bayern Munich in 2012.

Bertrand came to Chelsea’s attention while they were watching Virgil Van Dijk with a double bid expected in the summer.

Southampton will be looking for at least £25m for the left-back who is under contract until 2021. Van Dijk will cost Chelsea double that figure with Manchester City also keen on the Dutch defender.
