Chelsea have made an enquiry about signing Pepe.
According to a report in The Sun, Antonio Conte is considering making an offer for the defender whose Real Madrid deal expires at the end of the season.
Pepe has slipped out of favour this season but was offered a new 12 month contract but is holding out for a two year deal.
A number of clubs in China would provide that but the 24-year-old defender is convinced that he can still perform for a high level European club.
Conte likes his defenders to perform the basics and likes the way that Pepe goes about his job with the minimum of fuss.
With a Champions League campaign to look forward to next season Conte will be looking to boost his squad in the summer with quality like Pepe rarely available.
As well as wanting to perform for a high ranking club staying in Europe will give the defender a better chance of playing a part in Portugal’s World Cup plans.
