Arsenal are ready to open talks on a new contract for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

According to a report in The Mirror talks will open in the next fortnight over a deal worth £100,000/week to keep the player at The Emirates.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is among the group of players out of contract next summer but so far most attention has been on the negotiations for Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

Arsenal paid Southampton £12m for the teenager in 2011 but after six seasons the Ox has still to nail down a regular place.

As well as the financial details of a new contract the 23-year-old is seeking reassurances about his place in the side and wants the opportunity to play in central midfield.

Liverpool and Manchester City are both watching developments closely but it seems that Arsenal are more likely to get a deal completed than they are with Sanchez, Ozil or Jack Wilshere.
