Newcastle will revive their interest in Tom Cairney at the end of the season.

According to the Daily Mail the Fulham midfielder will be one of Rafa Benitez’s priority signing.

Newcastle were given no encouragement when they made an approach in January with Fulham determined to remain at full strength for a promotion push.

It’s believed that the Londoners will be looking for £12m for the midfielder who is in the Scotland squad for the international double bill with Canada and Slovenia.

Cairney did make it to St James Park but it was in Fulham colours as their 3-1 win put a dent in Newcastle’s promotion charge.

That performance reinforced Benitez’s belief that the 26-year-old can make a big contribution to his squad, unless Fulham win promotion then it’s almost certain that they’ll have to sell Cairney with Newcastle first in line for his services.

So far this season Cairney has scored nine times in 36 Championship appearances.
