Sunderland are reported to have agreed a deal to sign Andreas Samaris- if they avoid relegation.

According to a report by talkSPORT a £17m fee has been agreed with Benfica to take the midfielder to the north-east at the end of the season.

Sunderland are currently quoted at 1/8 to be relegated at the end of the season but if they pull off another escape Samaris will be at the club in August.

With ten matches left to play Sunderland are seven points behind fourth bottom Swansea with Moyes believing that they must win five of their remaining matches to stay up.

David Moyes was close to completing the deal in January but it seems that an agreement is now in place for the Greek internationalist.

Samaris is in his third season with Benfica after moving to Portugal from Olympiakos but has been in and out of the team this season.
