On loan Leeds defender Pontus Jansson is a transfer target for Southampton.

According to a report in The Express the 26-year-old is being lined up for a move to St Mary’s to replace Jose Fonte who joined West Ham in January.

Jansson joined Leeds on loan from Torino at the start of the season and has been in outstanding form as Garry Monk’s side look to secure a play-off spot.

That form hasn’t gone unnoticed by Southampton who were linked with Jansson before he left Malmo for Torino in 2014.

It was announced at the start of February that Jansson would sign a three year contract with Leeds once his loan spell expires at the end of the season but there is some doubt over that deal.

After an outstanding season in the centre of defence Monk will be anxious to ensure that the Swede stays on at Elland Road, if not it looks like Southampton could move in to agree a deal with Torino to take the defender to the south coast.
