Liverpool are keen to sign Max Meyer.

According to a report in The Mirror, Jurgen Klopp has switched his attention from Leon Goretzka to his Schalke team-mate Meyer.

Spurs were quoted £45m for the 21-year-old last summer but with just over a year left on his contract Liverpool are set to put in a bid around the £20m mark.

Klopp has watched Meyer in action recently and feels that the 21-year-old has all the attributes to make a big impact at Anfield.

Securing a Champions League place for next season is critical for Klopp’s plans with qualification securing extra money and the prestige to attract top players.

Rather than trying to sign the top names Liverpool are looking at a younger profile of players with Meyer fitting the bill with three seasons experience of playing in the Bundesliga.

The midfielder has said that it’s 50-50 whether he will stay with Schalke but with a massive pay rise on offer and possibly Champions League football it seems certain that he’ll be playing in England next season.
