Paul Scholes believes that Wayne Rooney will quit Manchester United if he fails to win back a regular first team place.

In a revealing Question and Answer session in the Daily Mail the former United midfielder claims that Rooney’s current situation will be ‘driving him up the wall’ and ‘killing him’.

Rooney’s lukewarm relationship with Jose Mourinho has been a constant feature of this season with his first team place no longer assured despite taking over from Sir Bobby Charlton as the club’s all time leading goal scorer.

Reports from China suggest that an incredible offer could still come in before their deadline date of February 28.

Mourinho has done nothing to make Rooney feel wanted with the superstar status transferring firmly to Zlatan Ibrahimovic even though the Swedish internationalist is older than Rooney and only contracted until the end of this season.

Rooney is under contract with United until 2019 on a reported basic wage of around £300,000/week.
