Manchester United will have to pay out £8.5m for Anthony Martial’s next goal.
According to a report in The Mirror, Monaco are due the windfall for the winger’s 25th goal in a United shirt.
Martial joined United in an incredible £38m deal in August 2015 that had a number of bonus payments linked in.
Details of the contract were leaked last month with a €10m payment agreed for Martial’s 25th United goal and also for his 25th international cap.
Rubbing salt into United’s wounds is the fall in value of the pound since the Brexit vote which was a big factor in United’s losses announced last week.
Jose Mourinho has had a lukewarm relationship with Martial since taking over at Old Trafford and now has a massive decision to make knowing the ‘cost’ of the Frenchman’s next goal.
Should Martial score again for United the cheer is likely to be louder in the south of France than the Stretford End.
