Barcelona will rival Manchester United for the signing of Victor Lindelof.

According to a report in Metro the Catalan side are watching the Benfica defender who almost joined United last month.

United were in talks with Benfica all through January to try and complete a deal but were unable to get it over the line.

Benfica have since paid off Swedish side Vasteras to take them out of the equation for a summer deal.

Whether United want to revisit the deal is unclear with their defence coming on leaping and bounds since they first declared their interest in Lindelof.

Benfica signed the defender in 2012 as an 18-year-old and have loaned him out to their reserve side to develop him into one of the top young defenders in Europe.

United were prepared to pay around £30m for Lindelof but with Barcelona now interested Benfica will be hoping that an auction breaks out for the defender.
