Bruce stands by his signings

Steve Bruce is standing by his January signings despite Aston Villa plunging into the Championship relegation zone.

Despite a disastrous run of taking just one point from their last eight matches the Villa boss told the club website that he was standing by the six players that he snapped up last month.

Those moves were designed to get the club into the play-off places but Villa are now just six points ahead of third bottom Wigan Athletic.

Bruce was brought into Villa Park in November and billed as a Championship specialist after taking Hull City to promotion last season.

Over £10m was spent on signing Scott Hogan from Brentford but after five appearances in a Villa shirt the striker has failed to find the net despite scoring 14 times for the Bees before his transfer north.

Since Paul Lambert quit Villa in 2015 Tim Sherwood, Remi Garde, Roberto di Matteo and now Bruce have been in the hotseat attempting to halt the club’s decline which is now pointing towards League One.
