Newcastle have been linked with a move for Andros Townsend.

According to a report in The Daily Mail Rafa Benitez is considering a move for the winger who left Newcastle for Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window following relegation.

Townsend was one of the few players to emerge with credit from Newcastle’s failed bid to avoid relegation but his return to London hasn’t worked out as planned.

With Newcastle looking in good shape for a rapid return to the top flight Benitez is hopeful that the 25-year-old will look favourably on a return to the north east.

Townsend has failed to make any real impact at Palace following his £13m summer transfer and could be sold to raise fresh funds for Sam Allardyce.

Newcastle have also been credited with an interest in Robert Snodgrass but Middlesbrough are now favourites to sign the Hull City midfielder after coming close to the club’s £10m valuation.
