Manchester United have been told to stump up an extra £15m if they want to sign Roma defender Kostas Manolas.

According to a report in The Sun the Roma defender is now rated at over £50m as the Serie A side attempt to cash in on the telly money flooding through the English game.

The on-off saga to sign Victor Lindelof forced Jose Mourinho to look at other options with the United boss a long time admirer of Manolas.

United offered Roma £32.5m for the commanding defender but that offer was instantly dismissed.

Roma had been hoping for £52m but will have to give serious consideration to a United offer of £47m for the 25-year-old who is in his third season with the Italian giants.

With Eric Bailly and Phil Jones currently holding down the two central defensive positions Mourinho would love to add Lindelof and Manolas to have four quality players competing for two starting places.
