Manchester United face competition from Bayern Munich for the signing of Nelson Semedo.

According to a report in The Sun the German champions are looking at the Benfica defender as a replacement for Philipp Lahm.

United were alerted to Semedo during the initial talks to bring Victor Lindelof to Old Trafford with that deal expected to be completed this week.

Right-back Semedo is also believed to be interesting Juventus but with the Lindelof deal completed to everyone’s satisfaction United are ahead of the competition to bag Semedo.

Antonio Valencia is the first choice right-back at United but Mourinho is looking for more quality than a converted winger.

With the midfield and forward areas starting to come together United are turning their attention to defence where the Benfica duo could easily slot in.

Twenty-three-year-old Semedo is in his second season with the Benfica first team and is valued at £25m.
