Manchester United set to deal in veteran

|

Jose Mourinho has asked the Manchester United board to hand Michael Carrick a 12 month contract extension.

According to a report in The Sun Mourinho is determined to get the former Spurs and West Ham man signed up again to avoid any distractions during the second half of the season.

Carrick is free to negotiate a move to any club outside of England but would prefer to stay on for an 11th season at Old Trafford.

Since returning to the side United have gone on a winning run with Mourinho impressed by the discipline that Carrick brings to the midfield.

Newcastle have long been linked with the midfielder but United sources are confident that the former England man will put pen to paper on a new 12 month deal expected to be worth around £80,000 per week.

In eight Premier League starts this season United are unbeaten with Carrick in the side.
