Manchester United want to steal a march on Chelsea and Manchester City by snapping up Tiemoue Bakayoko this month.

According to a report in The Mirror United are leading the way in the battle to sign the 22-year-old Monaco midfielder.

Monaco were originally adamant that Bakayoko wouldn’t be sold ahead of their Champions League ties against Manchester City but are now prepared to cash in on an all England bidding war.

Bakayoko is in his third season with Monaco after signing as a teenager from Stade Rennais and stood out in this season’s Champions League ties.

Jose Mourinho is expecting to be busy this month as he attempts to ensure that United mount a title challenge and book their return to the Champions League

Monaco have put a minimum price tag of 25m on the midfielder but are hopeful that the price can escalate in the same way as Anthony Martial’s transfer to Manchester United 18 months ago.
