Koeman refuses to allow McCarthy to leave

|

Ronald Koeman won’t let James McCarthy go out on loan.

According to a report in the Liverpool Echo the Everton boss has refused to discuss any offer from Newcastle and Aston Villa who have both been linked to the midfielder with West Brom and Stoke City also interested.

McCarthy was a regular under Roberto Martinez but has fallen down the pecking order since Koeman took over.

Injuries and a club v country row with Roy Keane haven’t helped but as he struggles to bring in new faces Koeman is in no rush to allow anyone to move out on loan.

Eighteen months ago McCarthy was being linked with Arsenal and Spurs but has struggled to build on the impact that he made after joining Everton from Wigan.

After managing to play in three consecutive matches last month the 26-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-Christmas derby against Liverpool which ruled him out of the festive programme.
