Chelsea aren’t prepared to take no for an answer in their bid to sign Virgil van Dijk.

According to a report in The Express the Premier League leaders are prepared to go up to £60m to sign the Southampton defender.

Southampton have tried to put bidders off by placing a £60m price tag on van Dijk but fresh from picking up over £50m for Oscar Chelsea are prepared to pay a record fee for a defender.

With quality defenders in short supply Antonio Conte is determined to bring in the former Celtic defender who he believes is ideally equipped to play in his preferred three man defence.

Manchester City are also keen on van Dijk but after shelling out £50m for John Stones they would rather hold off on van Dijk until the summer.

Everton, Manchester United and Paris St Germain have all been linked with van Dijk but it seems that Chelsea are the only club prepared to go close to the asking price this month.
