Manchester United face a battle with Bayern Munich to sign Benfica’s Nelson Semudo.

According to a report in The Sun the German side are keeping an eye on developments as United complete the deal to sign Victor Lindelof.

Representatives of Benfica are in Manchester to finalise the deal for the Swedish defender with Semudo also under discussion.

The early activity is a sign from Old Trafford that they are serious about returning to the Champions League with money apparently no object as Jose Mourinho completely revamps the squad that he inherited from Louis van Gaal.

Semudo has been described as an aggressive attacking right-back who isn’t afraid to get involved in the defensive side of the game.

Mourinho has extensive contacts across Portugal and will be well aware of Bayern’s interest in the 23-year-old defender.

Semudo has only one full cap for Portugal but after missing a large part of last season- and the Euro 16 success- through injury he will be hoping that a move to Manchester United or Bayern Munich will kick-start his international career.
