You could argue that Dimitri Payet has not been at the club long enough or achieved enough to warrant inclusion on this list – but that is a difficult sentiment to back up.

In truth, Payet was absolutely unstoppable last season – and he arguably transformed West Ham on his own back.

It was no surprise, then, that his absence at the start of the season coincided with West Ham’s very poor opening season form.

If West Ham do well this season, it will be because of Payet – and that is the marking of a great player.
