Released by West Ham United back in August, Championship outfit Derby County are now “taking an interest” in Uruguayan midfielder Diego Poyet according to a tweet by Alan Nixon.

The sports journalist claims the Rams are interested in signing the 21-year-old who has spent the majority of his career playing in England’s second tier so far.

Son of ex-Chelsea and Tottenham star Gus Poyet of course, Diego has been highly-rated since making the grade with Charlton Athletic back in 2013 but was only able to make three Premier League appearances with the Hammers.

Winning Charlton Athletic’s Player of the Year prize for performances in his breakthrough 2013/14 campaign, Poyet has clearly got talent but now needs to get his career back on track.

Spending three separate loan spells away from what was Upton Park at Huddersfield Town, Milton Keynes Dons and Charlton Athletic, all three clubs were playing Championship football so you can see why he’s now appeared on Derby County’s radar.
